Happy Christmas =)

A few days ago, I bought myself some more guitar equipment.. a Stratocaster, a Korg AX1000g guitar effects processor and a really borked amplifier. The guitar was picking up a lot of hum and noise, due to its single-coil pickups. I couldn’t check this in the shop, as there were no effects on me. When I took it home, the hum got flared up into horrid noise by the drive amp. I took it back to the shop, and they didn’t have any good techs to look at it. So I brought it back home, opened it and fixed it myself. The wiring inside was a mess, and the whole thing had to be redone. A huge amount of aluminum foil went into it for shielding. I learnt a LOT of stuff from this website called GuitarNuts. Now the hum is very low, and the guitar screams with a high-gain amp.. very responsive to picking. But there are still issues. The quality of tone is bad, and I need to work on it. It’s a very nice guitar though.

The AK-47

I read some very disturbing stuff today. I saw this website dedicated to Kalashnikov, inventor of the dreaded AK-47 assault rifle, used by many armies and many many terrorists around the world. The site praises the inventor, and describes how the Soviet army decorated him with numerous medals. It has information on a number of “modifications” and links to other gun-based websites. I don’t understand the purpose of guns. All invention may be deemed good, but weapons of destruction are not. What good is a gun for, except for causing hurt and death? I don’t understand how the inventor of a weapon which kills life can feel right about it, and accept medals for it. Do you know why the Nobel prizes are given? The site proudly states “More than 50 armies have Kalashnikov’s weapons in their arsenals.” What good is it? Death to the receiver of the bullets, pain and anguish to his family, and mental agony for even the person who pulled the trigger. This world needs peace and love to survive. Guns are bad. All guns are bad. Throw them away.

Files link

I forgot to add that the files link works now. You can browse old archives I have on this server, and download any as you like.

Happy December!

November’s been a great month, as always every year. I’ve been working as usual, and haven’t still taken that holiday. Let’s see what happens. Yesterday, Anju - my closest friend of many years came by to visit. It was so good spending time. Life carries on, and still it brings many surprises. Hmm… Lots of stuff happened anyway. Yours truly got caught again, reviewed in an article on Linux.com. I also hear Conic Planet got reviewed in an issue of the Linux Journal. Well, so far so good. I’m trying to finish learning the base interfaces of GTK+ fast and start building projects with it. I finally got my own Advogato acccount. So if you know my work, go rate me there, and on my SourceForge account too.
