The River Bank

there's a place in heaven
where old long house boats of bamboo
make the water tremble
long straws of dark grass on the bank
overcast sky and rain
a long dock streching into the water
as if leading to nothing
with a market on the bank
filled with people who barter their goods
cranes fly the sure wind
a pool of netted fish makes a pyramid
two school boys walking the bank front
dressed in white uniforms and canvas shoes
and bags of books
women washing their family linen
on shallow stone hedges
flowers in their hair
with bright smiles and friendly chatter
of good and bad and responsibility
horse carts line the road along the bank
with wares of businessmen and with businessmen
cloth merchants and ministers
the school boys have walked away
go to heaven
you must visit
