Yesterday I was at Mullard Space Science Laboratory on course of my work. The laboratory is a secluded facility and appeared to be set on a tranquil hill top with a beautiful breathtaking view of the valley underneath. It had just rained and the place was paradise.
Portions of the Rosetta spacecraft were developed here. It is now in storage. Following the failure of an upgraded version of the beautiful Ariane 5-ESCA on its maiden flight, the investigation into the failure delayed the launch of its second flight. The Rosetta had to be launched in a short window of time (before February this year) so it could use Earth and Mars to steer itself. Depending on how things go, the Rosetta may fly in a year’s time or more.
