- Still suffering from the jumpy mouse pointer problem on the older Thinkpad laptops, when the battery status is read? Turn off APM, use ACPI and pass i8042.nomux=1 to the kernel cmdline (in grub.conf/lilo.conf); you’ll obviously also pass apm=off
- Luis: I read your blog about the X problem you mentioned yesterday. I myself am a Fedora user, but recommend either Fedora or Ubuntu to newbies. But I have yet one more recommendation if you want that darn stable platform. It’s not Ubuntu or Fedora, but Red Hat Enterprise Linux. If you can’t afford a subscription license or don’t care about the Red Hat badge, you can go with CentOS, which is a recompile of the source code RPMs which Red Hat releases for its enterprise operating system and from my experience, matches it 1:1, and more importantly is not some new project but has been serving the community well for years. The versions of packages on both are slightly old (having been stabilized) for development purposes and Fedora serves very well here in providing a relatively stable distribution based on the newest versions of packages. I guess Ubuntu is getting its act together and learning lessons about testing updates before they release them, etc. and it’ll only make it better for the future.
- Tim Gerla: Congratulations on giving up your freedom
. Those photographs of Costa Rica are wonderful.. it looks like paradise. It’s like that island in The Incredibles. I have a few questions:
- Do they have good broadband there?
- Do they have good electricity there?
- Is it too expensive to live there?
- Are there any mermaids there?
- This is not just your magic with GIMP, is it?
